Lesson: KidPix Parts of a Flower
Date: April 16-23, 2013
The important thing about flowers is that they grow. They need sun and water and soil. The roots hold them in the ground and collect moisture. They stand tall with a stem and leaves reach out to the sunshine. Beautiful, fragrant petals attract bees to collect pollen. But the most important thing about flowers is that they grow!
1st Graders will use this class to further explore KidPix and practice drawing and labeling the parts of a flower.
We will brainstorm all of the parts and write the words on the idea wall along with what plants need to survive.
The students will practice with the color wheel, fill bucket, thickness of the pencil and using the text tool to label the parts.
Rotation #22 and #23
Lesson: The Important Thing About My Mom
Date: March 27-April 15, 2013
1st Grade learn about power writing through The Important Book by Margaret Wise Brown. We will read the book as a class and note the writing style that she uses throughout. After reading the story, we will brainstorm words about our moms. The students will be given a handout to draft a rough copy of their writing before adding it to Kidspiration. All students will meet with a teacher to conference. There should be at least 3 adults in the room so that conferencing can run smoothly. This will take 2 classes.
All children will meet with a teacher, make some necessary revisions, save and print their work. The classroom teacher will take the writing to the class so that the students can practice reading their selection in preparation for the recording piece that will occur on the ipad.
TEACHERS: please don't forget to send out an email reminder to your moms and have them send a photo of them and their child to you. If you could keep them in a folder, that would be great!

In this movie, you’ll learn how Dr. King grew up in a time of segregation, discrimination, and prejudice. People of different races, cultures, and religions were often treated unfairly. To protest, Dr. King helped organize non-violent rallies, boycotts, marches, and sit-ins. This movie tells about his role in the Montgomery Bus Boycott, the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, and the March on Washington where he gave his “I Have a Dream” speech.
